“Year of the Rabbit” is a three-act ballet set to the music of indie-artist Sufjan Stevens’ music. The ballet, choreographed by corps de ballet member Justin Peck, premiered on October 5th and will be running until February 2013.  As a former dancer and avid fan of Sufjan, it was enlightening to see classical ballet being danced to indie music. Infused with colorful costumes worn by the dancers and vivacious beats performed by the orchestra originated off of Sufjan’s album, the possibility for modern day music to be collaborated with such a prestigious and historical ballet company has prospered. For those who don’t want to sit through a two-and-a-half hour production of Swan Lake, then perhaps a more contemporary feel, which “Year of the Rabbit” portrays, would be appealing to you.
